Queen for a day

Salve!

I'm getting into the habit of continually doing and going places, looking at flights, and trains and constantly in the motion of 'going'. Which is awesome. Took me a few days to properly adjust but now i'm making lists of everything I want and need to do before I solemnly fly home to my beautiful city, Toronto.

Yesterday I was in San Gimignano and Monterregioni, both in Tuscany very close to Siena. (Spelling's definitely wrong on the second one). Both were such stunning villages that literally haven't changed since the Medieval period (1100). Insane to walk around in castles and shops and churches (Duomos) that once were hallowed by people you've (I) read about in text books. Who would have thought I'd one day stand in a fortress where once men (not women) stood en guard in Tuscany watching for the people coming to attack them to try and conquer their land. The biggest threat was Florence for this area. For those of you who know me well, naturally I renacted this scenario with much dramatic fanfare;).

This is for you Mama. Lavender growing on your walk up to the village.

For me;). San Gimignano is better known for leather than Florence, but I purchased the most stunning leather weekend bag at this shoe factory. These two towns are very adept at leather manufacturing mostly in part, I've been told, because of saddle making, etc. The reason for Siena's basic existence is because its en route to Roma. So pilgrims and merchants would travel through here on their way to Roma from everywhere. Via Franceja-France road. There are arches in most towns and every one is named Porto something because it's on the road to Roma. Near where I live is Porto San Marco:).

Look outs on the fortress around the village centre.

Wish you could have been there, Dad. You would have loved all the battle history.
