Today I had a mini Italian speaking course so I feel somewhat more prepared than I did earlier. However, I still struggled afterwards grocery shopping at the supermercato.
These are not ALL of the photos, but they are a select few. I feel it'd be a bit much for you to sift through random photos, and it'd defeat the purpose of traveling if I spent more time uploading and writing descriptions for each photo instead of being out there seeing the culture.
Unfortunately I didn't know that the process of uploading a photo onto a blog does it backwards. So...in the interest of chronology these photos are backwards. I learned.
These photos were of a wedding that processioned through the main square of Siena, Piazza del Compo. It's the centre of the city, and from what I've seen so far all of the streets come out from here. Toronto is based around Yonge, Siena is based around the Compo. This wedding was cool. Obviously they loved being Siennese, parading through. It appeared to be an all white wedding, and mostly linen. And note the SJP hat? Siena is pretty chill, fashion wise, so it was interesting to see such a fashion forward guest at a wedding.
I love this photo. As they were approaching me I really, really, really wanted to take their photo. But I settled for stealing one instead of fumbling through mixed Italian and French and English.
This photo was just to show how narrow the streets are. It's amazing. Everyone walks wherever, but when a car comes (they're so loud you can hear them from far off) if you don't move, apparently it will hit you. Apparently. I've not tested it yet, although I definitely want to.
This is a She-Wolf. Siena was waaay ahead of Shakira. I was told the historical significance of her today, but unfortunately it's now somewhat vague. In short, it's from Greek mythology and She-wolves are all over Siena.
The view from where I'm staying. Not bad, eh? Tuscany is pretty rural in an absolutely beautiful, lots of bricks, hills and foliage type of way.
That's all for now:). I'll post more photos soon. This weekend I think I'll be going to Prague! So exciting! And today I confirmed my ticket for an Italian Opera. I've wanted to go to an Italian Opera since I was little, and now I'm going to one....in Verona! Phenomenal.
Miss you all dearly.
Lots of love,
Sheila (or Chella as they call me here)
You've got a great eye! Keep shooting!
